Our collection of orchids is definitely worth a visit, fascinating plants that have been a symbol of sensuality and sophistication since ancient times and have always been ascribed to having aphrodisiac properties. Both the roots and the stems of orchids were in fact used to make love potions to increase fertility.
The ancient Greeks called these plants kosmosandalon, ie sandal of the world, for the shape of some species similar to that of a shoe, while the name Phalaenopsis derives from the fact that the flowers are reminiscent of the wings of a butterfly.
Most cultivated tropical orchids are epiphytes, that is to say that they are not rooted in the ground but they need to cling to the trunk of a tree for support and they mainly prefer a moist environment.
